China: Beijing: The Great Wall
It is one of the world's wonders. Its construction begun during the Warring States Period (403-221BC) when separate sections were built in scattered strategic areas. Following the unification of China in the Qin Dynasty, the various parts of the wall were linked up into one huge rampart. Later, the wall underwent large-scale construction in the Han (206BC-220AD) and Ming (1368-1644AD) dynasties.
